Did you know that the Town of Smithtown is required by law not to dispose of cardboard with regular garbage?
Your garbage carter cannot collect garbage containing cardboard!
Cardboard placed curbside on alternate Wednesdays is collected and sold by the Town to firms that recycle it into new cardboard and other paper products. Cardboard is one of the most valuable items collected for recycling. The money earned through the sale of cardboard reduces the waste charge that appears on the annual tax bills. Cardboard improperly disposed of with regular garbage increases disposal costs. This ultimately increases the waste charges that appear on your tax bill!!
Cardboard boxes should NOT be:
Thrown out with garbage or used as garbage containers – Especially the large cartons used to ship new appliances!!
Cardboard boxes should be:
Kept as clean as possible
Broken up and folded flat
Put out for collection every other Wednesday |
