     2008 Town Budget Becomes Official 12/04/07

At the November 29th Town Board meeting the Town Board accepted a letter from Vincent Puleo, Town Clerk, indicating that the Preliminary Budget became the Official 2008 Budget as of November 20, 2007.

     New CNG Powered Garbage Trucks Hit the Streets 01/08/07

Twenty-two new compressed natural gas (CNG) garbage collection vehicles hit the streets in Smithtown on January 2, 2007. The Town of Smithtown is the first municipality in New York State to require contracted garbage carters to use only vehicles that run on compressed natural gas. The Town of Smithtown received the highest environmental rating from “Save the Sound”, a Connecticut-based independent environmental group. Save the Sound graded municipalities surrounding the Long Island Sound for their environmental programs related to the protection of the Sound.

Town Supervisor Patrick R. Vecchio announced today that the Town of Smithtown has joined a national program called Call2Recyle! that helps Town of Smithtown residents conveniently recycle their cell phones and portable rechargeable batteries.

The Town of Smithtown recently completed a September 11, 2001 Memorial Park. The park is dedicated to the memories of the fifty-two victims of the terrorist attacks that were from or had families residing in the Township of Smithtown.
