The Town of Smithtown wishes to offer these important tips provided to us by the Suffolk County Water Authority:
  • Disconnect garden hoses. Shut off and drain all outside faucets and lawn sprinkler systems.
  • Eliminate drafts by keeping basement windows closed and by caulking around cracks in the basement especially where utility piping enters the building. Seal cracks in the crawl space and other outside walls.

    Clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs, keeping our seniors, kids, pets and environment safe. The Suffolk County Police Department offers prescription drug drop-off boxes at each local Precinct. Drug drop-off is completely anonymous and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.     Twenty-two new compressed natural gas (CNG) garbage collection vehicles hit the streets in Smithtown on January 2, 2007. The Town of Smithtown is the first municipality in New York State to require contracted garbage carters to use only vehicles that run on compressed natural gas.     The Town of Smithtown recently completed a September 11, 2001 Memorial Park. The park is dedicated to the memories of the fifty-two victims of the terrorist attacks that were from or had families residing in the Township of Smithtown.
